EAT ROW REJOICE
09-08-2010 - 10:48am

This may get old, these celebrations of the YNY life, but I sure had a beauty this weekend. Up on Lake Winnepesauke again...up at dawn and took the new Whitehall (actually a Little River Heritage Skiff, made of carbon fiber) out before any else was stirring. Rowed in the mist and the loons to nearby islands...slowly...just taking it in. Then head... Read More

Open call for limbic resources !
07-26-2007 - 11:08am

Chris and I would like to begin collecting what we call limbic resources. These are organizations, mostly non-profits, that offer effective vehicles for Younger Next Year members to get connected, do some good, and build their limbic base. I will share a short story to get the ball rolling. I was sitting with a very nice guy this weekend ... Read More

Just grazing, for the first time, at this new feature. I am a computer cripple and the idea that this fancy thing is OUR site is mind boggling. And it seems to work. Wow.

How I stack up against Harry's rules
06-08-2007 - 09:03pm
I'm Chuck,

I will turn 49 years young next month.
I'm in reasonable shape, 5'-10" about 175#.
I would like to be 165#
I think I can get there, but it won't be easy. ( I had a bowl of vanilla ice-cream today at an office celebration today that I should have skipped)
I exercise about 6 days per week.
I had a disk injury a few years ago that had me walking like an old man - unable to carry my brief case or a gallon of milk. It's healed now, but I try...     [read more]
Way to make a young guy feel OLD
06-08-2007 - 06:27pm
I am headed back to my home town of Canaan, CT for my little sister Molly's High School Graduation. Way to make me feel old! I am only 24 and sure makes me feel liek an old man haha.
Walking for Errands
06-07-2007 - 03:29pm
This will probably sound liek common sense, but it makes all the difference. I live in a fairly small city, so my bank, post office, grocery stores that I visit are all very close and only a 5-10 minute walk. I have found walking to and from them rather than zipping in my car is not only much healthier for me, but gives me tiem to refelct on the day and tasks at hand, rather than stressing over the person not using their turning signal in front of me!
The Organic Way
06-07-2007 - 03:27pm
My friend Jon introduced me to organic food last year and I never realized how amazing the difference in quality and nutrition. Not to mention I don't feel like crap after eating like most of the fast food and preswervative filled food I eat on the run. The only caveit is that it genrally is 3 times as exepensive for organic, especially around here in Vermont. I guess that is the price of being and feeling younger next year!
Here I go

Got the book about 3 weeks ago. A friend recommended it. I've been kinda fit so weight is not an issue however cholesterol and triglycerides are. I've cut out the fatty foods and will commit to 6 days a week workouts. I'm building up to the 45 min cardio. Am currently at 35 mins either running or cycling on a trainer. Up to this point, (2 months) I've dropped my cholesterol from 201 to 162 and my triglycerides from 700 to 299. I will drop the "tri's" below 200 by March 2008. Happy New Year! - S...     [read more]
Doing it all Right but it is Wrong
12-31-1969 - 08:00pm
I come from a Catholic background...if some thing bad happens to you, you deserve it. I was doing everything right, working out an hour per day, playing golf three times a week, eating an nutritionist-created meal plan, had stopped drinking completely, and getting my rest. Today, its been three weeks of bronchitis which has turned into pneumonia, prostatitis is attacking my prostate gland, I have taken so many antibiotic pills that all my good bacteria have probably perished, have a very bad hea...     [read more]
Back On The Wagon

Well here I go again . Actually I have never really stopped. Bought the book last november and have been at it ever since. Weight is down 40 pounds since this time last year, spinning at the ymca 3 mornings a week and strength training additional 2 - 3 days.. completed 2 separate century rides on the bike this fall, as well as a single day 65 mile over kancamangus pass (( 23 miles uphill, the last 6 at a 9% grade).. HOPING to be selected for the ride the rockies this year, and hoping to have dec...     [read more]
The New Year is a good time to start something new
12-31-1969 - 08:00pm
Happy New Year! I have spent December walking up and down eight flights of stairs to my office. I look forward to it now and will continue. Now going up and down our stairs at home is a slam dunk. That's cool.

One neat thing about this is that I am starting a firm wide fitness program for 2008 where our two offices will 'walk' 175 miles to Presho, SD by tracking our steps by taking the stairs to our office. If you didn't know, Presho is about halfway between Sioux Falls and Ra...     [read more]

Happy crowded gym day
12-31-1969 - 08:00pm
I was talking to one of the owners of my gym the other day and he commented that this is the time of year when they sell most of their memberships. But that 80% of the people who buy them will stop coming before the end of January. My observation isn't quite that negative - some will last til March - but I agree in principle.

Meanwhile we can expect to see the gym much more crowded than usual for awhile. But before you get too annoyed (like I always do) think of it this way - whe...     [read more]
2008 - New Routine and Great Expectations!
12-31-1969 - 08:00pm
It is great to see all the blogs! I went to the YMCA a couple of days ago... it was alive with people. I am usually amazed at how few people actually take advantage of the YMCA. We have beautiful facilities, with a great weight and cardio room that has an indoor track there is also a gym, a racquetball court and a nice indoor pool! It is about 30 miles from us so we don't use it as often as we would like. I guess everyone else has the same list of excuse why not to go... too busy, too far away....     [read more]

I was talking to one of the new owners at my gym the other day and he said that this is the time of year when they sell the most new memberships. Then he added that 80% of those people will stop coming before the end of January. Which is kind of sad when you think about it. Fortunately none of us are like that.

So when you go to the gym today, expect it to be crowded (I'm heading there shortly) but know also that it won't be long before it's back to normal. And before you get an...     [read more]
Resources, Resources, Resources
12-31-1969 - 08:00pm
While the YNY book is the best resource, it never hurts to keep our eyes open for tips, handy hints, inspiration, education on this journey to being younger. We are bombarded daily with the latest and greatest and fastest and easiest way to lose weight, get skinny, get buffed; whatever phrase vendors think will get you to spend money, they will use. And, I dare say, we probably have all fallen for one of them somewhere along the line!

Steve and I have narrowed down our list of r...     [read more]
