EXERCISE AND DEATH: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
07-17-2010 - 02:29pm

Two years ago, my closest friend died of a massive heart attack, after a lovely, 50 mile bike ride, at the age of 67. It was a perfect death but 20 years too soon...and heartbreaking for everyone. You won't see much about this in YNY but people do die, working out. FAR FAR MORE LIVE ARE SAVED BY EXERCISE THAN LOST but it's out there. So watch it.... Read More

Open call for limbic resources !

Chris and I would like to begin collecting what we call limbic resources. These are organizations, mostly non-profits, that offer effective vehicles for Younger Next Year members to get connected, do some good, and build their limbic base. I will share a short story to get the ball rolling. I was sitting with a very nice guy this weekend ... Read More

Day 2 of its a new life - trying to create a new habit
12-16-2009 - 09:34am
Hi all –
It is day 2 and I want to thank those who commented with the encouraging words. I plan to incorporate weight training but want to get into a 6 times a week habit. I have a friend who is a persona trainer who needs some financial help and I am going to hire him to assist. My goal is to start to incorporate weight and strength training around the end of January. I figure if I get to that point I have now started a new habit and life style. I plan to get there.

Also by my blogging a few times a week is a way of telling me to keep it up and to solicit the great words of my new community and friends to help with the focus.

Well as I said is day 2 and last night I tackled the aerobic scene again. I know to so some this is going to sound like a cop out but it is work for me and it is fun and it may help maintain focus. Last night I did 35 hard minutes of aerobics with my new Wii FIT. It is a toy but it is a toy that 1) I paid too much for to let sit in the corner and 2) If you work it, it will work you. So what did I do? I did 35 minutes of timed activity in 45 minutes of clock time while keeping my heart rate around 65%. I ran, I did the hula hoop, I did the boxing (Coordination sucks) and a lot of steps. I was a little winded and my wife laughed but I enjoyed it and rewarded myself with a little video golf and bowling after I did my workout. My plans are to only play games as a reward for a good workout.

Overall I plan to complete this week between the bike and the Wii and then next week step it up a little in intensity and time. I must make this a game and I must have fun or it will get boring. So as I said my now journey has started and step 2 (even though a baby step) has been taken.

Again thanks for the encouragement and thanks for the tips and thanks for the comments. They are all appreciated.
